If you haven’t heard—Paris Photo LA 2015 is coming up soon! On a bright and sunny California Friday, people will be lining up around noon to get into the event located in the heart of Hollywood in the appropriately chosen Paramount Picture studio lot. The event will last all weekend Friday, May 1st to Sunday, May 3rd and includes a variety of activities that encompass the photo media experience. This includes pop-up book stores, food trucks, panels, and booths with the likes of Leica and other greats in the photography and art world.
If it’s anything compared to last year, this is bound to be an experience you don’t want to miss. Although this is only the third year Paris Photo has come to Los Angeles, it has proved to be the biggest up and coming event for exploring art and photography. Last year’s attendance was booming with people lined up to get a sneak peak at the Los Angeles Police exhibit, “UNEDITED! : The LAPD Photo Archives“. This exhibit showcased rare and unseen photographs and case information from some of the most notorious crimes in the history of Los Angeles. But that’s not all there was to offer. I stopped by many galleries and saw plenty of new photography, pausing along the way to discuss the featured photographs with the staff. It was wonderful to see all the work in person and to be able to interact with new and interesting people.
This year I will be looking forward to the Sound and Vision screenings which will showcase artists and curators discussing work in the fields of photography, contemporary art, and cinema. There will also be galleries like Librairie 213 which will be showing the portfolio by Sophie Bramly, which will feature photographs of some well known acts like Run DMC and the Beastie Boys back in their heyday. The wide variety of work and activities is bound to have something for everyone’s aesthetic. I cannot wait to check out what this year’s galleries have to offer and I hope to see you there!
