Will Adler has been a familiar face at Color Services for a long time. He knows he is welcome to cruise the lab—whether to seek out his completed prints or to chat with staff. His tousled surfer look and easygoing nature make him easy to love. And so we’ve been incredibly happy to watch Will make a name for himself in surfing and photography circles. It’s his distinctive take on surfing photography, with images as laid back as Will himself, that have earned him a cult following. Unique to Will’s style is the way he captures the spirit and atmosphere of place—as much as the action of the sport. His light-infused images feature stunning ocean waves; women surfers as prominently as men; and an occasional drenched dog.
Currently Color Services is showing a collection Will’s work printed on wood. The show is well worth a visit to our shop. The vintagey nature of wood prints combined with the dreaminess of Will’s photography is a perfect fit.
Come July 1, east coast residents and visitors will also have the opportunity to view Will’s work. A crate of his fine art photography, printed at Color Services on beautiful Hahnemühle paper, shipped from our lab on Monday—headed for delivery and installation at Danziger Gallery in New York City.
Adler’s summer show includes pictures from Hawaii, California, and Montauk shot for himself and for magazines such as Juxtapoz, Neon, Surfer, WAX, and The New Yorker. The exhibit was curated by Tom Adler (Will’s uncle), the art director and publisher known for his seminal books on early surf photography as well as his graphic artworks exhibited at Danziger Gallery.
Since its founding in 1990, the Danziger Gallery has established itself as one of the leading photography venues in the world, known for the originality and diversity of its exhibitions, its representation of established photographers, and the influence of its new discoveries.
