The scroll has been around for centuries…but our contemporary take has elevated this ancient way of displaying art into a unique and stylish means of wall decor for today. Color Services’ exclusive Photo Scrolls were carefully conceived into a product that makes us proud. Who knew this historic way of display could look so fresh?

One thing our new Photo Scrolls have in common with those of days gone by are that they are carefully crafted by hand. The journey of a photograph into a Photo Scroll begins when we giclée-print a photo with finely sprayed ink onto artist’s canvas. Next, it’s hand-coated with 2 layers of “Timeless” archival varnish to enhance the color and provide protection from dirt, moisture and UV rays. Meanwhile, half-round pine dowels have been hand-rubbed with walnut stain to encase the top and bottom edges of the canvas. Finally, a hanging cord of twisted cotton is attached for the perfect finish, and—voila!—our labor of love is complete.

Our friend and photographer, Leah, of Photography by Leah, chose a Photo Scroll for a shot of a special day she spent with her mother. Leah says, “It was a moment in time, captured for posterity’s sake, and not one that I would simply make a print from…because, well, that would not do it justice!  The display needed to be as unique and gorgeous as that day was to us. The Photo Scroll was the perfect answer and my mother proudly shows it off to everyone!”

The sample you see above has been made from a photograph of mule deer on Santa Rosa Island by Greg Lawler. For a closer look at Greg’s scroll, stop into our shop where it’s on display in the lobby. For more information about Photo Scrolls, click here.
