Michelle Lee:
Pet Photographer Extraordinaire
For photographer Michelle Lee, love is a 4-legged word. She has always loved taking pictures of her pets, and now she has made a livelihood out of her passion. At her business, Pets in Focus, Michelle shoots pets solo, pets and their owners and pets for corporate advertising campaigns.
When Michelle took over our Instagram feed and posted her work for week #167 of the Photograph Your Love® Instagram Takeover, every photo she posted made me smile! Dogs, chickens, bunnies … you name it, she shoots it … and each one is better than the last. Her work is as adorable as it gets and I know any pet owner would be thrilled to have such a keepsake. I’ll definitely be telling my friends — and if I had a pet at present, I’d book a session in a heartbeat. Michelle takes time to get to know the animals she shoots, and that, combined with her talent, shows in her work. A pet photo of the quality she provides is truly a treasure for a lifetime.
Where did you grow up? Kailua, on the island of Oahu.
When did you get into photography and why? I took my first photo at the age of 5 when I lined my stuffed animals up under my coconut tree. It was probably a precursor to my pet photography! 🙂
How would you describe your shooting style? Fun, energetic and a little quirky.
What kind of gear and technology do you use; and how does this influence or impact your work? I’m a Canon girl and currently shoot with a 5D Mark III. Lightroom is my go-to for organizing images. I don’t do a lot of Photoshop and try to keep it simple.
What photographer or artist has had the biggest influence on your own photography? Annie Leibowitz. She is a force to be reckoned with and I appreciate her rise to the top. I like her quirkiness and creative style.
What motivates or inspires you to continue taking pictures? The moment my clients see their photos and their appreciation and happiness to have their memories immortalized in time.
