Capturing the nostalgia of a moment and sharing someone’s story are what inspires John Thomas Rose to pick up his camera. During his week posting images on the Photograph Your Love® Instagram Takeover, we saw many great examples of his inspiration brought to fruition. We saw beautiful landscapes, quirky snaps, street scenes and day-in-the-life moments. Of special interest were his shots taken during a stay in Vietnam.

Kira is amazing. She's not my dog but I'm proud to be part of her pack. She belongs to Mark and Caitlin from the previous two images.

October, 2010 | Seated on a bench that used to serve customers of her riverside café, Truong Thi Tuyet Hong smokes a cigarette while recalling her neighborhood before it was subject to imminant domaine in Thu Thiem Ward, District 2, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. I was lucky enough to spend 3 weeks with Hong while in the international documentary class at @brooks.institute. It was truly a special experience. I still keep in contact with her to this day. After graduating from Elmhurst College with a degree in Spanish, John Rose enrolled in the visual journalism program at Brooks Institute in Ventura, California. It was during his time at Brooks that he spent 7 weeks in Vietnam working on the annual international documentary project. To this day, John keeps in contact with a friend he made in Vietnam while working on that project. Just the fact that someone chooses to share a particular image in a takeover named “Photograph Your Love” tells you the specialness of that person or experience.

After Brooks, Rose went on to become a Laboratory Teachers Assistant in the Journalism department at Santa Barbara City College. Among his duties, he serves as technical advisor to the student newspaper, The Channels.

Truong Thi Tuyet Hong reads the days lottery numbers while her grandson, Nguyen Tuan Minh Dat, “Ben”, 3 years old, receives a kiss from the neighbor and his mother builds a fire at the end of the day. The fire is where the family spends their evening together as it wards off disease spreading mosquitos. Photo by John Thomas Rose

We thank John so much for his participation in our takeover! Some of his images highlighted beautiful getaways close to home here in Santa Barbara. If you’re a local, check out his shots of Pine Mountain and the Sespe Wilderness, plan a great day hike, grab your camera and Photograph Your Love!
