In the years that I interviewed applicants for jobs as photo lab technicians, the #1 response to my question, “What would be your ideal job?” was “A National Geographic photographer.” It’s little wonder since the imagery of National Geographic is the best of the best. Plus you get to travel the globe for the capture. Now, this iconic publication is celebrating its 125th anniversary with a multi-media exhibit of stunning images at the Annenberg Space for Photography in Los Angeles.

Annenberg_logoTitled The Power of Photography: National Geographic 125 Years, this cutting-edge exhibition highlights the dedication of National Geographic to use the incredible power of photography to explore, educate, inspire, document and preserve the world around us. A picture is truly worth a thousand words.

If you’re fortunate enough to live within driving distance of Los Angeles, this show will reward you well for your effort. It’s free to the public through April 27, 2014. Be prepared to allow ample time for your stay as more than 500 images document the history  of National Geographic photography from 1888 to the present. Photographs are displayed as prints as well as rotating digital images on massive screens. The result reflects the transition of photography toward digital imagery and provides a dynamic, immersive experience that will be unique to each visitor and each visit.  So extensive is the volume of photographs that Gabe from Color Services has gone twice. Treat yourself…and take time to view The Power of Photography.
